The monobox services (short mbx) are a collection of services hosted by an individual in Germany for friends and family without compensation or monetary incentive. Its use is the improvement of privacy of individual users by lowering the barrier of entry to modern self-hosted applications through crowd-sourcing.

monobox is neither supported nor represented by a company.

Welcome to monobox! We're thrilled to have you join our community. These terms outline how we operate and what we expect from everyone using the platform.

  1. Content & Conduct: You are responsible for everything you post, upload, or share using monobox services. Please be kind, respectful, and considerate of others. Our Code of Conduct outlines these expectations in more detail. Remember that while we strive to remove harmful content from our services, posts may be cached or transferred to other services using our platform and therefore not always immediately deletable.

  2. Disclaimer: We offer the platform free of charge and make no guarantees about its reliability, availability, or security. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising out of or relating to your use of the platform. Backups are created at best effort, services are hosted and maintained in accordance with vendor recommended deployment practices.

  3. Rights and license granted: You retain ownership of the content you create. By sharing it on monobox services, you grant us a non-exclusive license to use it in your name in accordance with the service's functionality. We will not use user content without consent to promote or showcase our service.

  4. Intellectual property: When using content on this platform you assure that you are permitted to use this content in this way. Violations reported to us will result in a deplatforming of the content and a warning to the user.

  5. Termination: We reserve the right to terminate your access to the platform at any time for any reason, with or without notice. If possible, a reasonable notice is given, if a service is to be retired.

  6. Governing Law: These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Germany. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Germany.

Code of Conduct

The monobox is all about connection, understanding, and shared experiences. We want everyone to feel welcome and safe to express themselves freely. To make this happen, we ask that everyone follows these simple guidelines:

  1. Be Respectful: Treat everyone on the platform with kindness and consideration, even when you disagree. Remember that words can have a powerful impact, so let's strive for constructive conversations and avoid personal attacks or insults.

  2. Show Empathy: Try to see things from different perspectives and understand others' experiences. Avoid generalizations and stereotypes that can be hurtful.

  3. Celebrate Diversity: We value the richness that diversity brings to our community. [Platform Name] is a space for everyone, regardless of their background, beliefs, identity, or opinions.

  4. No Hate Speech or Discrimination: We have zero tolerance for hate speech, bigotry, discrimination, or harassment of any kind. This includes:

    • Language that promotes violence or hatred against individuals or groups.
    • Dehumanizing language or slurs targeting specific groups.
    • Content that incites harm or discrimination against others.
    • Invalidating LGBTQIA+ identities or promoting harmful stereotypes.
    • Violations of these rules in 'good faith' or from a 'devil's advocate' position still constitute a violation of these rules and will be handled in this way.

    Important Note: While we work hard to remove harmful content from our instance, please remember that posts may be cached on other instances and therefore not always immediately deletable.

Keep in mind that content that might seem harmless to you can trigger intense reactions in others. Keep content accessible (e.g. by using descriptive language or using alt text features if available)

  6. Respect copyright laws and intellectual property rights. Violations brought to the attention of the owners of these services are handled in accordance with the Terms of Service.

Consequences for Violations: We take these guidelines seriously. Actions may include:

  • Warnings: For minor infractions, users will receive a warning message outlining the violation and expected behavior.
  • Account Limitations: Continued violations may result in temporary or permanent limitations on your account(s).

Privacy Policy

At Monobox, we value your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you create an account or interact with our services.

This service does not exist to compete with or take away from commercial offerings that service the same purpose.

What information do we collect?

When you create a free account, we may collect basic information like your name, email address, and optional details like your phone number or birthday. We also collect information about how you use our services, such as the pages you visit and features you use.

We do not collect sensitive personal information unless you choose to share it voluntarily. This includes things like your race, religion, political opinions, or health information.

  • for third party platform insight or statistics
  • for analysis.
  • for training of AI models

Your choices:

  • You can choose to limit the information you share with us.
  • You can also access and update your account information at any time.
  • If you with to receive exports of the data we have stored about you, please contact us (see below)
    • Data stored in end-to-end encrypted form might be technically impossible to include in a data report.
  • If you wish to delete your account, please contact us (see below)
    • if you want to delete your data from one or more of our services, please contact us (see below)
  • You have the right to be forgotten
    • If you instruct us to do so, we will pseudonymize your account to the extend of technical possibility and remove your account and data from our platform.
      • For data that is shared in a revision-safe form, this might require coordination with the involved third parties and users (especially on our git foundry)
      • For data that was shared by you beyond our platforms, our efforts will extend to
        • Prevent the further accessibility of your data on our platform
        • Prevent restoration or reinstating of your account or data through backups
        • Assist in your effort to expunge your data from third parties by providing our knowledge about who might you might have shared it to - while protecting our other users privacy.

Data security:

We take data security seriously and use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. All data shared with us directly is stored in Germany. Backups of the data stored with third parties are stored in Germany and are encrypted.

Account Guidelines

To ensure a fair and positive experience for everyone, we have established some guidelines regarding accounts and their usage.

  1. One Account Per Person: Each individual is permitted only one account1. Creating multiple accounts with the intent to circumvent platform rules or manipulate interactions is strictly prohibited. No accounts are granted for businesses or projects with financial motives.

  2. Sharing Accounts: Sharing your account credentials with others is not permitted unless explicit permission is granted by the operator of this instance. Doing so can result in both accounts being suspended.

  3. Bot Accounts: While we encourage the use of bots to enhance the platform experience, all bot accounts require approval from the operator.

    • Bot Account Requests: To request a bot account, please submit a detailed description outlining its purpose, functionality, and adherence to our Code of Conduct.
    • Operational Guidelines: Approved bot accounts must operate within established guidelines provided by the operator. This includes limitations on frequency of interactions, content restrictions, and identification as an automated entity.
  4. Personal Bans: If an individual violates the platform's rules outlined in the Code of Conduct or Terms of Service, they may be subject to a personal ban. This means they will be prohibited from creating new accounts or accessing existing ones on our services. The severity and duration of a ban are determined by the operator based on the nature and severity of the violation.

  5. Account deletion: Any individual with an account on any monobox platform or service has the right to deletion of their account and user-data. In some cases a stub of their account must remain intact to for data integrity reasons in which case their name will be redacted and pseudonymized on their behalf. Data communicated to other services by the user willingly is subject to their data protection policy. While we will do our best to communicate the wish of our user using technical means if they wish, we can not guarantee the deletion of data the individual has created or published using our services.
